Cards that can cheat out threats are something you should always keep an eye on, and Sauron, the Necromancer is just such a card. 3/3 menace creatures may not be that huge, but a 3/3 that gains all the text of, say, an Archon of Cruelty is something that you absolutely must sit up and take notice of.
The only real downside to the Necromancer is the fact that you want to run a few sources of Ring temptation to get the most value out of him (sadly he doesn’t tempt you himself), but Call of the Ring and friends are fine cards on their own. Now, don’t mind me, just building a pile of spooky cards to reanimate, ignore that Grave Titan, he’s just hanging out in the yard.
