Love it or hate it – and it really does seem to be a pretty even split – Cyclonic Rift is one of the most divisive cards in Commander. Some think it’s a positive – it can reset a ridiculous board state, for instance, or it can end a protracted, drawn-out game when people just want to go home. Others, however, think its asymmetry is completely obnoxious, lending blue mages an “I win” button that almost feels like cheating. Upheaval is banned, after all, and it’s symmetrical and sorcery-speed – but Cyclonic Rift is still out there, ending games from nowhere? It’s all so unfair – whenever opponents cast Cyclonic Rift, I just feel so wronged.
