Top 10 Most Overrated Cards in Commander MTG – 5. Sword of Fire and Ice

We return, once again, to the category of “cards that are good in competitive Magic that aren’t that good in EDH”, for our latest entry: Sword of Fire and Ice. In formats like Modern or Legacy, drawing a card and dealing two damage to something is great! That’s the sort of effect that can turn a game around. In Commander, it is so marginal – everyone is doing much more powerful things. Sword of Fire and Ice isn’t bad, it’s good, it’s still a good card with a good ability. But when you’ve got the option of playing this Sword versus something like Sword of Feast and Famine to untap all your lands, or Sword of Truth and Justice to proliferate extra counters across your team, Sword of Fire and Ice pales in comparison. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that because this card is great in 60-card decks, that it’s automatically great in Commander. It’s fine, but there are better Swords out there.
